Developing Athletes with Integrity - A presentation for parents and coaches
The Positive Youth Sports Alliance of Essex proudly announces a free community presentation for parents and coaches, titled “Developing Athletes with Integrity,” featuring Peter Scott, nationally renowned speaker and presenter. Mr. Scott will present on topics including grasping the complex relationship between players, parents, and coaches, learning to like adversity, and understanding the power of your words. The presentation will be both insightful and inspiring, with important information for the many coaches and parents in the Essex area who have an impact on youth athletes. The presentation will take place on Tuesday, March 9, from 7:00-8:30p.m. at Essex High School. Desserts and coffee will be provided. There is no pre-registration required.
The evening will also feature a presentation of the 2009 Positive Youth Sports Alliance of Essex Coach of the Year Award. Twelve coaches were nominated by members of the community, who were asked to submit an essay describing a coach who shows respect for the rules, opponents, officials, teammates, and one’s self, acknowledges that making mistakes and losing are a part of life and these times are opportunities for learning, and represents the community in a positive manner. The four finalists for the Coach of the Year Award are: Andrew Coulter - Essex Junction Little League, Ed Demulder - Essex United Soccer Club, Tom Downs - Essex Youth Football League, and Keith Hathaway - Essex Junction Recreation and Parks.
The Positive Youth Sports Alliance of Essex was formed in November 2007, with the mission of “promoting a positive sports experience that will teach lifelong lessons through personal growth and healthy competition.” The Alliance is comprised of fourteen local community and school based sports organizations, which include: ADL, EMS, EHS, Essex Junction Recreation and Parks, Essex Parks and Recreation, Essex Junction Little League, Essex Town Little League and Softball, Essex Youth Lacrosse, Essex Youth Hockey Association, Essex Mini Metro Basketball, Swim with Annie Swim Program, Essex Youth Football League, Essex Youth Wrestling, and Essex United Soccer Club.
